Maritime Brewers Celebrate Local Malt

HALIFAX, NSHart & Thistle Gastropub & Brewery will be playing host to a unique event tonight (Wednesday, March 30th) at 7:00 PM, as brewers from across the Maritimes will be gathered to pour samples of beers made with Maritime Malt, a new malt variety from Canada Malting made exclusively from Maritime-grown barley.

Getting a head start on the event was the Hart & Thistle’s own brewmaster, Greg Nash, who tapped his Maritime Malt Bomb IPA yesterday. Despite the name, the beer is actually more of a hop bomb (as is usual for Nash), with a theoretical bittering level of 279 IBU.

Confirmed to be launched tonight is Maritime Mild Ale from Propeller Brewery, the latest in their One-Hit Wonder series of monthly one-off beers. After the event, Maritime Mild will be available in growlers at the Propeller retail store starting on Friday.

Other breweries participating in tonight’s event have not been announced.
