TORONTO, ON – The Canadian Beer News Dinner Series is back for 2013, and we’ll be kicking off a new year of dinners and tastings with a special Valentine’s Day event.
On Thursday, February 14th, 2013, come celebrate your favourite romance, bromance or womance with us at Bar Hop (391 King Street West, Toronto) as a selection of great beers from Great Lakes Brewery – including the brand new 25th Anniversary Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout – will be expertly paired with dishes created by guest chef Tim Steele, who has worked in some of the top kitchens in Toronto (Chantecler, c5, Black Hoof) and Europe (Noma, Mistral).
Tickets for this CBN Dinner are available now for $75 including all taxes, gratuities and ticket fees. More details can be found on the event page in the CBN Dinner Series area of the website.
Canadian Beer Notes
Dead Frog Commander Imperial Stout
Brewery: Dead Frog Brewery, Aldergrove, BC
Style: Imperial Stout
ABV: 10.5%
Availability: Limited edition releaseDeep ruby-black body with a thin and quickly disappearing khaki-tan head. Strong aroma of charred wood, molasses, licorice and dark chocolate. Flavour holds all of those notes as well, along with some bourbon vanilla in the middle, and a warmly boozy and astringently bitter finish. Body is a bit thinner than expected from the style, but still full enough to support the flavour. Good, but I think 6 months or so of aging will do a lot to mellow the rough edges and make it much better.
