Critical Mass Brewing Opening Restaurant Today in St. Albert, Brewery Planned for 2018

ST. ALBERT, AB – A new bar and restaurant with aims to feature an in-house brewery is opening today (February 7th) in downtown St. Albert, Alberta.

As reported by the St. Albert Gazette, Critical Mass Brewing has been founded by Ron Massé and Melanie Massé-Plowman, who have enlisted chef Zak Aziz to help them relaunch the former Blue Rare Steak & Bar at 24 Perron Street as a casual and craft beer friendly restaurant.

According to the Gazette article, Massé hopes to launch the brewery side of the business in 2018, although “he wants to ensure the viability of the restaurant before investing a further $750,000 in renovations to transform the back patio into a small brewery.” In the meantime, the restaurant will be serving beer from a selection of Alberta craft breweries.
