HALIFAX, NS – Garrison Brewing has announced the release of a new limited edition beer to support a local food security organization.
This Beer Is Toast! (5.4% abv) is a saison-style ale brewed with a unique ingredient:
Garrison is brewing up craft beer innovation and creativity by including stale bread destined for disposal as part of their tasty new summer Saison. 250lbs of plain, rye, multigrain & pumpernickel bread was donated by three local bakeries: Birdies Bread Co., The Old Apothecary and Smith’s Bakery. It took a little over three weeks to gather enough bread required for the beer recipe, then slice it, toast it and crumble it enough to brew with.
The resulting beer is described as “deep gold with light fruity apple and bread-dough flavours and a refreshingly dry finish.”
This Beer Is Toast! is available now at Garrison, and next week at local private beer stores. 50 cents from each bottle sold will be donated to Feed Nova Scotia, an organization that gathers food and distributes it to more than 150 food banks in the province.
