McAuslan St-Ambroise Imperial Stout

mcauslan_imperialstoutMONTREAL, QC – CBN’s Quebec correspondent Chloe Smith reports that the 20th anniversary of McAuslan Brewing will be marked with a new limited edition beer to be released later this month.

St-Ambroise Imperial Stout will be available in single bottles with a suggested price of $5.99. Only 9600 bottles have been produced, and distribution will likely be limited to Quebec, although that has yet to be confirmed.

Rickards Dark and Molson M Coming Soon

molson_logoMONTREAL, QCMolson Coors Canada has two new products set to be launched soon.

The first is Rickard’s Dark, a new addition to the Rickard’s family of beers. Described as being “brewed in the style of English porters (with) just a hint of pure Quebec maple syrup”, Rickard’s Dark will be available later this month in 6 and 12 packs in Quebec and the Maritimes, and as part of Rickard’s Taster’s packs in the rest of Canada

The other new brand is Molson M, “The First MicrocarbonatedTM Lager”, which will be available in Quebec starting on November 16th. A teaser site for Molson M is online now at molsonm.com.

Canada Malting to Release New Regional Malt

MONTREAL, QC – CBN correspondent Chloe Smith reports that Canada Malting is releasing a new pale malt next month.

Grown and malted in the province of Quebec, brewers in the east will now have a regional option when purchasing malt. The new malt will be available for sale as of August 4th.

In order to launch this new malt, Canada Malting has teamed up with Les 3 Brasseurs to brew a blonde ale using the malt and Hallertau hops. It will be available for tasting at the Montreal Old Port location (105, rue Saint-Paul est) starting August 7th, while supplies last.

Le Bien, Le Malt Launches La Poule Dealcoholized Craft Beer

lapoule_logoRIMOUSKI, QC – Brewpub Le Bien, le Malt has just launched La Poule, a series of dealcoholized (0.5%) beers that are the only dealcoholized craft beers currently being made in Canada.

The microbrewery industry is growing well all over Canada, but only one brewery now produces a 0.5% ABV (alcohol by volume) craft beer. Le Bien, le Malt is located in Rimouski, in eastern Québec. Ever since the brewery opened its doors just over a year ago, brewer Ghislain Lefebvre has been thinking about producing a dealcoholized beer. “We’ve been looking for a way to create a unique product, a low alcohol beverage that our clientele could enjoy while keeping with the character of our craftbrewed beers” says Mr. Lefebvre.

Journée Québécoise de la Bière 2009

JQBGATINEAU, QC – CBN correspondent Chloe Smith reports that Quebec beer magazine/website Bières et Plaisirs has announced the first annual Journée Québécoise de la Bière (Quebec Day of Beer).

On August 15th, 2009, breweries around the province will be giving brewery tours and hosting tasting sessions, and brewpubs will be offering various specials on food and drink.

Canadian Breweries Take Medals at U.S. Open Beer Championship

Ontario Craft Brewers at Mondial de la Bière

ocb_logoTORONTO, ON & MONTREAL, QC – For the first time in the festival’s 16 year history, breweries from Ontario will have a big presence at next week’s Mondial de la Bière in Montreal.

Long known for having strong representation of breweries from Quebec, the US and overseas, this year’s edition will feature beers from several members of the Ontario Craft Brewers including Beau’s, Black Oak, Cameron’s, Great Lakes, Mill Street, Neustadt Springs and Wellington Brewery. All of the beers will be poured in the Petit Pub area of the festival, and representatives from some of the breweries will be on hand.

In addition, beer expert Mirella Amato will be holding formal tasting sessions featuring Ontario beers each day of the festival, and will also spend a few hours in Le Petit Pub each day helping festival attendees discover and learn about the Ontario craft beers on offer.

Les Brasseurs du Temps

Owned by Alain Geoffroy, a long-time fixture in the Quebec beer scene, Les Brasseurs du Temps will feature beers brewed in house by brewmaster Dominique Gosselin, plus guest beers from other microbreweries and a gourmet food menu.

Dieu du Ciel! Aphrodite

dieuduciel_aphroditeST-JÉRÔME, QCbeernews.org reports that Microbrasserie Dieu du Ciel! has been given label approval in the US for Aphrodite.

A strong stout (6.5%) brewed with cocoa and vanilla, Aphrodite is an alias of Aphrodisiaque, a beer that has been available on an occasional basis over the last six years at the original DDC! brewpub in Montreal. Aphrodisiaque is currently ranked #50 in the best beers in the world according to RateBeer.

According to DDC! president Stéphane Ostiguy, the bottled version goes into production in April, with Quebec being the initial market. US label approval was sought by the brewery’s American importer, Shelton Brothers, in hope that there will be sufficient quantities to be shipped south of the border later this year.
