Cascadian Dark Ales Popping Up in the East & West

While there is still come controversy over the name of the style, the porter/IPA hybrid that is commonly known as Cascadian Dark Ale (or in some cases, Black IPA) has become a quite popular choice for craft brewers across the country, with several appearing recently in Ontario and BC.

In Ontario, Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery has released Netherworld Cascadian Dark Ale in bottles for the first time, making it available in six-packs at the LCBO; and in honour the annual day of shopping mayhem taking place south of the border today, Amsterdam Brewery is releasing Black Friday, a limited edition blend of their Nut Brown Ale, Two Fisted Stout, and Boneshaker IPA that will be available on tap exclusively at C’est What, Burger Bar and barVolo in Toronto.

Out west, Howe Sound Brewing has released Gathering Storm Cascadian Dark Ale, and is offering on tap at St. Augustine’s Craft Brew House & Kitchen and Alibi Room in Vancouver; and Central City Brewing tweeted yesterday about “a one-off cask of our Cascadian Dark Ale, dry-hopped with Warrior, at the Sunset Grill”.
