Kichesippi To Launch New Beer at Ottawa Wine & Food Festival

OTTAWA, ONKichesippi Beer Co. has a new seasonal beer ready for release, and will be launching it during a special beer-themed event at this week’s Ottawa Wine & Food Festival.

Kichesippi Logger is a dark lager brewed in the style of a Pennsylvania Porter, a type of beer that has almost disappeared from the brewing world:

Unlike British Porters, Penn Porters were brewed with lager yeast, a portion of adjuncts and lightly hopped. In the glass, the colour is brown with red tints. The finish displays the crisp refreshing notes from a lager with the dry finish of a porter. The beer was originally brewed as a reward for hard working North Americans. We brew our beer for the same reason, to acknowledge the hard work of the loggers, log drivers and those who have helped build Ottawa and surrounding communities.

Promotional material for the beer will feature a recreation of the last Canadian one dollar bill, with the image of Queen Elizabeth on the front replaced with Big Joe Mufferaw, the folklore lumberjack legend from the Ottawa Valley, while the back displays an artist rendition of the famous photo logs floating down the river behind the Parliament buildings taken by Malak Karsh in 1963.

Kichesippi Logger will be debuted on the evening of November 10th at “Beer From Here”, an Ottawa Wine & Food Festival event featuring beer from several breweries in the Ottawa region, and food by celebrity chef Anthony Sedlak.

  1. I Really love the kichessippi beer and hope this one will be a great addition to the family, only one comment i love the history behind the idea but it look kind of odd for a beer label using that image for a marketing concept. Just a point of view. seems that the dollars bill is just a put together image. not a fan. But cant wait to taste it.
