Firehall Brewery Debuts With First Batch of Stoked Ember Ale

OLIVER, BC – While they missed their first planned launched date of last fall, the father and son team of Jim and Sid Ruhland hit their second target, and have officially opened Firehall Brewery in the basement of the Old Firehall building in Oliver, BC.

The first 1000 litre batch of the brewery’s flagship beer, Stoked Ember Ale, was brewed on February 25th and released last week. It’s described by brewmaster Sid Ruhland as follows:

Delicious grains deliver a warming “ember” colour and complex, malty, caramel/toffee flavours. Ancient glacial meltwaters filtered through different aquifers blend to give us one-of-a-kind brewing water, providing a distinct & exciting South Okanagan taste. A unique hop profile is created by combining traditional European varieties with North American classics, supplying subtle herbal, floral, and citrus aromas. The warm ale fermentation also adds pleasant fruit-like aromas to the bouquet. Blah blah blah, drink it ‘cuz it’s good.

In addition to takeaway sales of 50 litre kegs and 1.89 refillable growler jugs at the brewery’s tasting room – dubbed the “Hydration Station” – Stoked Ember Ale is also available on tap at the Firehall Bistro, the restaurant and bar located in the main level of the Old Firehall building. Other local bars set to feature the beer include Murphy’s Irish Sports Bar & Grill, Ye Olde Welcome Inn, and the Baldy Bar in the Mt. Baldy Ski Area.
