Two New Breweries Coming Soon to Niagara-on-the-Lake

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON – The Niagara Advance reports that two small breweries will be setting up shop this summer in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a small town popular with tourists who visit the area for the annual Shaw Festival and to tour local wineries.

Aiming for an August opening in a former gallery building on Niagara Stone Road is Niagara Oast House Brewers, headed by partners Mike Berlis, Cian MacNeill and Kevin Somerville (pictured above). Belris and Somerville are both trained brewmasters, and MacNeill comes from Tawse Winery where he was a wine maker. In the article, Berlis notes that the brewery intends to source local ingredients, and will feature many seasonal beers.

Down the road in a former church, partners Chris Pontsioen and Matt Swan with brewmaster Don McKinnon are hoping to have Silver Smith Brewery up and running by July, once all permits are finalized.
