Voting Now Open for Ontario Brewmasters Cup & Golden Tap Awards

TORONTO, ON – Ontario beer drinkers now have a chance to have their voices heard in a pair of beer awards, the Ontario Brewmasters Cup and the Golden Tap Awards.

The OBC is a new award inaugurated this year by four Toronto beer writers: Ben Johnson of blogTO, Crystal Luxmore of The Grid, Greg Clow of Canadian Beer News, and Jordan St. John of QMI/Toronto Sun. Each of the writers chose an Ontario-brewed beer in each of four categories – Lagers, Pale Ales/IPAs, Stouts/Porters/Dark Ales, and Wheat/Fruit/Flavoured Beers – and the public can now vote on their favourite in each category.

First round voting will continue until the weekend of August 25th, after which the four category winners will go up against each other in the final round. The overall winner will be announced in early September, and an awards party will be held at Rhino Bar & Grill (1249 Queen St. W., Toronto) on Sunday September 16th during Toronto Beer Week.

On the other end of Toronto Beer Week, the 2012 edition of the Golden Tap Awards will take place on Saturday September 22nd at beerbistro (18 King St. E., Toronto). Overseen by Cass Enright, founder of The Bar Towel, the GTAs recognize breweries, bars and individuals who represent the best in Ontario’s craft beer scene. Voting is open now and runs until September 17th.
