Walkerville Brewery Officially Back In Business

WINDSOR, ON – Almost a year after plans for its revival were first announced, beer is once again rolling off the lines at Windsor’s Walkerville Brewery.

Previously owned and operated by Karen Behune Plunkett from 1998 to 2007, and then for another couple of years under a bankruptcy trustee, the brewery had been sitting dormant since early 2010 when the planned relaunch was announced in late 2011. A subsequent announcement early this year indicated that the reopened brewery would likely operate under a new name, but partners Chris Ryan and Mike Brkovich ultimately decided to stick with Walkerville for the relaunch which took place last week.

According to a recent Windsor Star blog post, the new Walkerville is starting out with two flagship beers, a Premium Lager and a Pilsner. Brewmaster Nick Poloski also plans to create seasonals and one-offs on a regular basis, starting with a Schwarzbier which is expected to be available in early October.

Both brands can be sampled by the glass at the brewery tasting room, and purchased in growlers to take home. Walkerville has also started appearing on tap at several bars and restaurants in Windsor and area, with more to follow soon.
