EDMONTON, AB – Sherbrooke Liquor, the Edmonton store considered one of Canada’s best beer shops, has announced details of the next installment in its “Beer Gods” series of limited edition beers.
Brewed exclusively for Sherbrooke by Saskatoon’s Paddock Wood Brewing, the series is planned to feature 12 different beers, each named after a god or goddess of brewing from different historic cultures.
The upcoming fourth beer in the series will be the 8.3% abv Ninkasi Imperial Pilsener:
As the oldest known deity affiliated with beer, the Sumerian goddess Ninkasi deserves some respect. First of all her name means “The Lady Who Fills The Mouth.” With beer. She was borne of sparkling fresh water in order to produce beer for the gods on a daily basis, and eventually taught humanity to brew as well so we wouldn’t have to miss out on all that goodness. These skills earned her the credit of being able to “satisfy the desire” and “sate the heart”, if you’re the type to go based on cuneiform admirations. Even the oldest known written recipe is for beer, found in an homage called The Hymn to Ninkasi. Pretty fitting for what seemed like a very popular, and probably a very busy goddess!
Ninkasi Imperial Pilsener is currently being aged on French oak staves, and a release date is expected to be announced soon.
