CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) is seeking a private industry partner to organize and manage a new beer festival in Charlottetown later this year.

A reported in The Guardian newspaper, the new event will replace two competing festivals – the PEI Beer Festival and the PEI International Beer Festival – which took place last year.

Campbell Webster, organizer of last year’s PEI Beer Festival, tells the Guardian that he thinks the consolidation and public-private partnership is “a great idea,” and that he intends to submit a partnership proposal for the new festival. It’s unknown if the PEI Brewing Company, which presented the second festival in 2012, intends to compete for the new partnership.

The date for this new PEILCC-intiated festival is still to be confirmed, but it is expected to take place in September or October.
