WINNIPEG, MB – A Winnipeg restaurateur has announced plans to open the first pub and restaurant in the city to serve exclusively craft beer next month.

Barley Brothers is the newest venture from Noel Bernier, the principal owner of several other Winnipeg eateries including Carnaval Brazilian BBQ, Corrientes Argentine Pizzeria and Hermanos Restaurant & Wine Bar.

Along with partners Richard and Dennis Wiebe, Justin Giasson and Darcy Caners, Bernier will be opening the 180-seat establishment with a 60-seat outdoor patio at 655 Empress St. in Winnipeg in late October.

According to a recent article in the Winnipeg Free Press, Barley Brothers will offer 72 different craft beers on tap from across North America, including around 50 that are brand new to the Manitoba market.

  1. Well… I drove by the restaurant not knowing anything about it. The outside is inviting but the inside is a beat up Kelsey’s. I’m sitting here now reading reviews and wondering if the service is in existence. I sat at directly at bar for 10 minutes and no one acknowledged me. I was finally offered a beer and asked if I needed a menu… I got the beer… No menu. There is only 12 people in the bar with very poor service. After reading the reviews I’m glad I never did get a menu. If the food is like the service, go to Confusion Corner and have some good food and SERVICE. IMO if it continues to have these reviews the building will be once again empty waiting to be levelled or a proper chain restaurant to open.

  2. I, also, was unaware that the restaurant existed. My boyfriend and I were going out for dinner at the Montana’s directly beside Barley Brothers. We debated going into Barley Brothers but since we both didn’t know if it was any good we stuck with Montanas. There was a 20 minute wait for a booth at Montana’s, so we decided to ditch and check out Barley Brothers. Am I ever glad that we did! One of my new favourite restaurants in Winnipeg! Waiters/Waitresses were friendly and welcomed us with smiles, the service was great, food was awesome and the environment was quite cozy and comfortable! I already look forward to going back.
