DARTMOUTH, NSSleeman Breweries, has announced that it will be closing its Dartmouth, Nova Scotia brewery at end of business today (November 28th), putting 15 employees out of work effective immediately.

Sleeman’s parent company Sapporo International announced last March that it was putting the facility up for sale as part of a strategy to optimize its North American operations. It was planned that the brewery would closed if a sale was not closed by July, but that deadline was extended while Sleeman continued looking for a buyer.

In a statement, Pierre Ferland, Sleeman’s National Vice President of Operations, said that the company has “been working for months on trying to maintain as many jobs as possible by selling the facility to a new brewery owner. This facility was too big for the small operators and too small for the large ones. We’re disappointed we couldn’t find another owner and keep these jobs in Dartmouth.”

Details on whether severance packages or re-employment services have been offered to the dismissed employees have not been announced.
