TORONTO, ONGreat Lakes Brewery has announced the latest release in the Tank Ten series of limited edition beers, one that was developed and brewed in collaboration with a local award-winning homebrewer.

Beard of Zeus Barrel-Aged Barley Wine is based on a recipe created by Kyle Teichart that won the Strong Ale category in the 2012 Toronto Beer Week homebrewing competition. Brewed in early 2013 and then barrel-aged for almost a year, the resulting 13% abv beer is described as follows:

Mahogany in colour with some ruby red hues shining through under the tan head. Aromas of dried fruits, plums and a touch of warming alcohol. Much the same in taste: dried fruits, cherry and plum, sweet malt with soft notes of vanilla and toffee. The Four Roses bourbon barrels that were used to age this beer give the barley wine a lot of character, which comes through nicely in the finish.

Beard of Zeus will be debuted with a launch party and tasting event at the Great Lakes Brewery next Thursday, January 16th starting at 5:00 PM, where it will be available to sample along with several other limited edition beers.

Following the launch event, 1000 bottles of Beard of Zeus will be released for retail sales, with the majority to be available at select LCBO locations, and a smaller amount held to be sold at the Great Lakes store. It will retail for $9.95 per 650 ml bottle while supplies last.
