Propeller Expands Capacity at Dartmouth Brewery

HALIFAX, NSPropeller Brewing has announced that its second brewing facility which was opened less than a year ago in Dartmouth is already set for an expansion to support the growing demand for craft beer in Nova Scotia.

According to a statement announcing the expansion, the installation of a new 68 hectolitre fermenter was driven primarily by the increasing sales of Bohemian Style Pilsener, Propeller’s only lager – and as Brewmaster Josh Adler explains, “lagers take time… in fact more than twice the time ales do to fully mature before packaging is possible, and we are not willing to compromise quality to achieve volume.”

Also new to the brewery is a yeast propagator, equipment that will allow Propeller brewers to develop their own strains of yeast. Propeller is the first microbrewery in Nova Scotia to install this technology.

For more details, see the full press release on the Propeller website.

    1. Jerry – I misquoted the press release from Propeller which indicated that they are the first MICRO-brewery in NS to have the yeast propagator equipment. The article will be updated.

Oh, and the last time I checked, Moosehead was in New Brunswick, not Nova Scotia…

      1. Great, thanks for the follow-up.

Moosehead did have a brewery in Burnside Industrial Park of Dartmouth NS. Not sure when it closed but it could have been in the 1990’s.
