OTTAWA, ON – Ontario beer news website Mom ‘n’ Hops reports that a new brewpub will be opening soon in Ottawa’s Byward Market neighbourhood, with the launch being tied in with a sponsorship deal with a popular local community event.

Lowertown Brewery is the newest venture from Steve Monuk’s York Entertainment, a company that owns and operates a number of bars and restaurants in Ottawa. Planned to open in May, the brewpub will offer “a warm, hospitable atmosphere where our patrons can enjoy authentic comfort food and delicious craft beer,” according to Monuk.

The first pair of beers from the brewery – Lowertown Lager and Lowertown Dark – will be available in time for this year’s edition of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend on May 24th and 25th. Lowertown is the official beer supplier for the event, and has also obtained naming rights for one of the weekend’s main races, which is now known as the Lowertown Brewery Ottawa 10K.
