FREDERICTON, NB & TORONTO, ONPicaroons Traditional Ales and Great Lakes Brewery have announced that they will be collaborating on a beer for the 2014 edition of the Canadian Brewing Awards (CBAs) – and thanks to modern technology, they’ll be staying in touch while creating it in their respective brewhouses.

Tomorrow (April 29th), the brewing teams in both locations – led by brewmasters Andrew Estabrooks at Picaroons and Mike Lackey at Great Lakes – will be connected via Skype video while brewing Eastbound & Down IPA. The recipe for the beer was developed by Estabrooks and Lackey, and according to a press release, it “will feature some Maritime Malt, made from 100% New Brunswick grown Newdale barley, and Lackey has selected a number of delicious hop varieties to add that Great Lakes hop character to the beer.”

Both breweries are past recipients of the CBAs Canadian Brewery of the Year award – Great Lakes in 2013, Piacroons in 2011 – making this a fitting collaboration for the official beer of the 2014 CBAs.

The Picaroons-brewed version of Eastbound & Down will be debuted at the 2014 Canadian Brewing Awards & Conference, taking place on May 29th to 31st in Fredericton. It will also be available in growlers at the Picaroons Brewtique retail store, and on draught at select bars and restaurants.

The Great Lakes version will be available in bottles and/or growlers at the GLB retail store, with the possibility of a wider release following the CBAs.
