TORONTO, ON – Scotland’s Innis & Gunn has announced the Canadian release of a new limited edition beer created in collaboration with the winner of the inaugural Innis & Gunn Bartender’s Choice competition.

Innis & Gunn Smokin’ Gunn was brewed based on a concept developed by David Ashton-Hyde, head bartender at the famous Hinds Head gastropub in Bray, England.

Selected from more than 300 submissions by bartenders in the UK, Sweden and Canada, Smokin’ Gunn is a smoked beer that was “inspired by (Ashton-Hyde’s) love of Canadian and American whiskies, and a weakness for pancakes and maple syrup.”

The beer is more fully described as follows:

A serious piece, Smokin’ Gunn is the brewer’s first smoked beer, made in the style of a Bamberg Rauchbier. The German Spring variety malts are smoked over beech wood to give a light charcoal character to the beer, which is then matured – in trademark Innis & Gunn style – in ex-Bourbon casks for a big vanilla hit before being finished with maple syrup for a toasty sweetness.

Innis & Gunn Smokin’ Gunn was released in Canada last month, and is available now in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick, with a suggested retail price of $4.95 per 330 ml bottle.
