ALDERGROVE, BCDead Frog Brewery has announced the return of a beer described by its creator Tony Dewald as “one of the best beers I’ve made in my 23 years of brewing” when it was originally released last year – although perhaps as a nod to it now being overseen by Dead Frog’s new head brewer Nick Fengler, its been given a new name and label for its re-release.

Previously known as Valiant, the 9% abv hoppy golden ale is now called Furious Friar Belgian IPA, and is described as follows:

Fighting out of Cascadia by way of Belgium, this golden knockout artist specializes in a deadly combination of West Coast hops and traditional Belgian spices. Known for an intense tropical fruit and phenol aroma that is followed up by perfectly balanced flavours of citrus, coriander, clove, and spice. It’s a synthesis of phenolic Old World Tripels and the contemporary West Coast passion for aggressive hop character. The result is a hammer in a velvet glove that will launch from the corner quietly, then build in intensity to dominate the ring.

Furious Friar is available now in 650 ml bottles at select liquor stores in British Columbia.
