OTTAWA, ON – Just over two years after the launch of its original brewpub location in Ottawa’s west end, Big Rig Brewery has announced plans to open both a larger production brewery and a second brewpub in the next few months.

As co-owner and brewmaster Lon Ladell tells the Ottawa Citizen, the new 16,000 square-foot brewery in the suburb of Kanata, several kilometres west of the original brewpub, is due to open in September, and will be used primarily for the production of the flagship Big Rig Gold brand for distribution in cans to LCBO locations across the province. Ladell hopes to have Big Rig Black IPA available at the LCBO soon as well, and is eyeing the Alberta market for expansion in 2015.

In addition to brewing Big Rig brands, the new facility has enough capacity to offer space to contract brewers, with two already lined up to use the system. And along with the brewhouse, the space will also feature a tasting room, retail store and events space.

Also in the works is a second Big Rig Kitchen restaurant, currently under construction in the Gloucester Centre in Ottawa’s east end, and expected to open this winter.
