VICTORIA, BCPhillips Brewing has announced the release of a new beer to mark its 13th anniversary, as well as a special add-on that will give drinkers a preview of what’s to come from Phillips Fermentorium, the brewery’s new spin-off distillery.

13 Knots in a Hangman’s Noose is a limited edition double IPA brewed for the anniversary to a strength of 11.9% abv – the maximum allowed for beers produced in British Columbia. Each bottle also comes with a 45 ml bottle of Hop Drop, a hop-infused spirit that is described as follows:

Hop Drop is an artisanal hop liqueur crafted to celebrate the classic hop flavours the Phillips team infuses into their brews! Real hops are transformed into an incredibly potent elixir where explosions of fresh pine and bright bitterness are balanced in a blanket of soft sweetness. Its depth of flavour is robust enough to enjoy on its own poured gently over ice, or it can be ‘dropped’ into another beer to instantly raise the ABV and infuse the brew with bright, hoppy flavours.

Fittingly, if the vial of Hop Drop is added to the bomber of 13 Knots, the abv of the beer will be increased to 13% to match the anniversary year. And while it’s currently available exclusively a bonus with purchase of 13 Knots, there are plans to release Hop Drop on its own in 50 ml and 200 ml formats in the near future.

Bottles of 13 Knots in a Hangman’s Noose with the Hop Drop on-pack are available now at select private liquor stores in British Columbia. The release will be marked with a tasting of both liquids at the Phillips brewery this Thursday September 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
