TORONTO, ONBeer Academy has announced the release of a new seasonal brand inspired by a classic German beer style, as well as a series of ultra-limited beers that will be offered at various events during Toronto Beer Week.

Beer Academy Rauchbier is the new seasonal release, and is a 6.1% abv smoked lager described as follows:

This Bamberg-Style Rauchbier, also known as a “Smoked Beer” hides from no one. It was brewed with 90% Beachwood Smoked Malt to create the pronounced and fragrant aromas of cooked bacon, smoked sausage, and campfire. From a foot away you will be able to detect its signature, but on the palate it is surprisingly smooth and clean showing an elegant smoke touched by candy-apples, toasted caramel and gentle grassy hops. Bitterness is mild while the body shows a calm off-sweet and creamy mouthfeel attributed by specialty malts and 6 weeks of careful lagering.

Rauchbier is being launched today (September 11th) in the Beer Academy tasting room and retail store, where it will be available on draught and in bottles. It will also be pouring at The Beer Experience, the launch party for Toronto Beer Week taking place tonight at Berkeley Church in Toronto.

Also available today at Beer Academy and Beer Experience is the draught-only Coconut Vanilla Chocolate Imperial Stout (9.2% abv), a strong stout aged for three months on vanilla beans, coconut, and cocoa nibs. And on tap exclusively at Beer Experience will be a single keg of a new Belgian Dubbel (9.1%).

Next week, Beer Academy will be releasing a trio of single-keg beers at three Toronto Beer Week events being held at the brewery:

Monday September 15th: “Australian Invasion” – An Aussie-themed pub night with Kanga meat pies and Aussie Passionfruit IPA (6% abv), brewed with two Australian hop varieties, passionfruit, and ginger.

Wednesday September 17th: “Coffee Pils & Gamer Skillz” – Classic video games on the 30 foot screen, and a single keg  Coffee Pilsner (5.2%), made with Saaz hops and freshly roasted beans from Fahrenheit Coffee.

Thursday September 18th: “Brewhaha!” – Live comedy night with a limited edition Peach Saison (5.6% abv).
