TORONTO, ONBeer Academy has announced the launch of a new seasonal brand that combines two autumn brewing traditions – pumpkin ales and Oktoberfest lagers – into a single hybrid beer.

Kürbis Bombe Märzen is a 5.5% abv amber lager brewed using freshly roasted sugar pumpkins and a variety of fall spices including cinnamon, clove, ginger and nutmeg. The resulting beer is described as follows:

Perfectly fit for the fall season, Kürbis Bombe means “Pumpkin Bomb” in German, and Märzen is the malty forerunner to the Oktoberfest Lager. This beer is brewed with 40 Fairytale Sugar Pumpkins, and whole spices to honor the classic flavours of October. Within the amber and sunset orange body rests aromas of pie spice and pumpkin flesh. The first quaff brings cinnamon forward, then malty grains, graham cracker, biscuit, and gently sweet pumpkin. Bitterness is low, and the mouthfeel is clean and smooth. The finish is soft with a quick end, but still traces of spice.

Kürbis Bombe is available now on draught and in bottles at the Beer Academy tasting room and retail store. A one-off cask edition with vanilla beans added will be available at this weekend’s Cask Days festival.
