HALIFAX, NSStillwell Beer Bar on Barrington Street in Halifax celebrated its first birthday this past weekend, and as part of the celebrations, Boxing Rock Brewing released a new beer that was crafted in collaboration with the bar’s owners Andrew Connell, Laura MacDonald and Christopher Reynolds.

Merci Bière is a strong (8.4% abv) saison that is described as follows:

Made with premium Canadian and German malts, we added a touch of beechwood smoked malt for a great background character. We made it mouth puckeringly dry, with a very slight tart mouthfeel that made it super refreshing, lively and light on the palate. We added UK Goldings and Czech Saaz hops which complemented the smoked malt perfectly. Finally we used a special French farmhouse yeast that spiced up the brew with hints of clove, allspice, black pepper, wrapped up in a fruity body of tangerine, pear and white grape.

Merci Bière was debuted on tap at Stillwell yesterday, and will be available starting this week in 650 ml bottles at private liquor stores in Nova Scotia, and in growlers at the Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market and the brewery.
