WINNIPEG, MB – Following on the success of a pilot project that allows growler sales at breweries and select liquor stores, the Manitoba Government has released a new Craft Breweries Strategy to provide further support to breweries in the province.

Announced yesterday by Minister of Tourism, Culture, Heritage, Sport and Consumer Protection Ron Lemieux during a press conference at Half Pints Brewing, the initiative is centred around an advisory committee that includes representatives from the brewing and hospitality industries, and which will “help to identify obstacles and explore new opportunities for Manitoba-based craft brewing.”

The first item to be reviewed by the committee will be the licensing of brewery tap rooms, a common feature of breweries in other provinces, but not currently allowed in Manitoba.

The group will also be tasked with exploring other areas where Manitoba breweries can contribute to the economic growth of province, including the use of more local barley and other ingredients.
