EDMUNDSTON, NBLes Brasseurs du Petit-Sault has announced a bottled release for a beer that pays tribute to a local legend connecting a family in the area to the royalty of pre-Revolution France.

Louis XVII Amber Ale is named in honour of Bélonie Nadeau, a resident of St-Hilaire, NB in the late 18th and early 19th century. As the brewery explains:

According to Nadeau family keepsakes and archeological digs, Bélonie Nadeau was Louis XVII, France’s lost little red-haired prince. His parents would have sent him over to save him during the Revolution. His disappearance continues to intrigue the world over, but the answer might be found in our backyard. True or not, we figured he deserved to be honoured with a royally great beer!

The 5.5% abv ale was previously available as a limited draught-only release, and has the following tasting notes:

Up front caramel notes, toasted bread aroma, hints of toffee, roastiness, and fruitiness. Well rounded with balanced bitterness. Made with local specialty malts, natural ingredients and brewed with pure Edmundston water.

Louis XVII Amber Ale will be available soon in six-packs of 341 ml stubby bottles at select ANBL locations.
