VICTORIA, BC – In a push back against the sexism that is still all-too-common in beer marketing, Victoria’s Moon Under Water Brewpub has announced the release this weekend of a new beer that intends to show that “women can represented on a beer in a non-offensive manner.”

Hip As Funk Farmhouse IPA is a 7% abv ale brewed with saison yeast, Brettanomyces, and hops with a strong tropical fruit character. As the brewery notes, “although fruity flavours are sometimes associated with this style, it is not intended to be a women’s beer, [but] something for everyone to enjoy.”

The label for Hip As Funk was designed by Vancouver based graphic designer Bjauna Sorensen, and features an image of an attractive but strong-looking, non-sexualized woman.

Hip As Funk will be released on Sunday March 8th – which is also International Women’s Day – and will be available on tap at the Moon Under Water, and in bottles at private liquor stores across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
