VICTORIA, BC & NEW WESTMINSTER, BC – The BC Craft Brewers Guild has announced the release of the second in a series of collaborative beers that the organization is coordinating and making available throughout the province.

United Front Braun Beer is a traditional German Kellerbier co-created and co-brewed by Ralf Pittroff of Vancouver Island Brewery and Peter Schulz of Steel & Oak Brewing. In a press release, the brewers gave their thoughts on the beer and the collaborative process behind it:

“Peter and I share the view of using quality ingredients to brew old world styles. We came up with the idea to do the Braun bier from one of Peter’s own recipes, and adapted to a production level,” said Pittroff. “It wasn’t a difficult decision. I loved the idea of brewing a German style that hasn’t seen much development in North America even as craft beer becomes increasingly popular.”

S&O’s brewmaster agreed. “I think a Braun bier was the perfect style to create,” said Schulz. “With both Ralf and I coming from German brewing backgrounds it was a great opportunity to brew this historical German style lager. I can’t wait for people to try it.”

United Front is being launched this week in 650 ml bottles at select private liquor stores, with distribution to BC Liquor locations to follow soon. It will also be available at several events during Vancouver Craft Beer Week.
