TORONTO, ONSteam Whistle Brewing has revealed the design of the 2015 edition of its retro bottle opener, a popular promotional item that is returning for the eleventh summer in a row.

This year’s opener is inspired by a classic “churchkey” style opener from an early 20th century brewery owned by Charles Mcgee that Steam Whistle co-founder Greg Taylor picked up at a beer memorabilia sale.

“We reached into the past and revived a forgotten opener design from Canada’s craft brewing boom at the turn of the 20th century,” explains Cam Heaps, Taylor’s fellow co-founder, in a statement. “This piece of history honours brewing heritage while also celebrating today’s craft beer revolution and the returned pride for Canada’s world-class brewing.”

The Mcgee Churchkey will be available in specially marked 6 and 12 packs of Steam Whistle Pilsner throughout the summer.
