THORNBURY, ON – Ontario beer news website What’s Brewin’ reports that an initiative started this summer by Provincial Beverages of Canada to consolidate two of its brand portfolios under one name is now complete, with the result being the discontinuation of the King Brewery name after 13 years.

The three core King beers – Pilsner, Dark Lager and Vienna Lager – have been folded into the Thornbury Beverage Company line-up, joining the original Thornbury Cider as well as the more recently launched Thornbury Blue Mountain Lager. The trio have been given new names – Pick-Up Truck Pilsner, Dark Horse Lager and Jubilee Amber Lager respectively – and have also been shifted from 341 ml bottles to 473 ml cans.

In addition, production of the beers will soon be moving from the rented King brewery in Nobleton, which will be shut down, to the company-owned Thornbury facility in its namesake town. Plans also call for the establishment of a distillery, restaurant, retail store and tasting room at the Thornbury location.

What’s Brewin’ asked Provincial Beverages representative Bryan Watts about the status of the company’s third beer imprint – Barn Door Brewing – and previously announced plans to open a facility in Uxbridge. Watt indicated that both have put on hold while the company concentrates on consolidating operations at the Thornbury site, but they will be revisited in the future.
