GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB – Prairies-focused beer blog On Beer reports that a new brewery is being prepped to open soon in the Northern Alberta city of Grand Prairie.

GP Brewing is being founded by Jason Petrone, owner of Maddhatters Pub in the city’s downtown. Located next door to the pub, the brewery will feature a 25 hectolitre brewhouse, a small tasting room, and retail sales of cans and growlers.

The flagship beer from the brewery will be a pale lager that Petrone describes as “a light drinking beer that will appeal to mass market because (craft beer) is a new thing for the Grande Prairie area.” Other beer styles being developed for future release include honey brown, stout, hefeweizen and IPA, and the brewery will also produce several exclusive house beers for Madhatters.

Brewing at GP is planned to start next month, with an aim to open and start selling product in February.
