VANKLEEK HILL, ONBeau’s All Natural Brewing has announced the launch of a new series of seasonal gruits, an ancient style of herbal beer that the brewery has been instrumental in reviving in recent years.

Set to be released quarterly on each seasonal solstice and equinox, the Beau’s Gruit Series is kicking off today with the annual return of Bog Water, the first gruit that Beau’s released back in 2008.

Brewed using locally harvested organic bog myrtle, Bog Water is a 6.6% abv gruit described as having “a sweet aroma, balanced bitterness, and herbal, spicy notes suggestive of a digestif.”

In parallel to the main series, Beau’s will also be running an Imperial Gruit Series, featuring limited edition beers “based on the other gruits in the series, but intensified versions that have bolder flavours and higher alcohol strength.”

The first release in the Imperial series is The Bogfather, an amped-up 8% abv version of Bog Water that was previously available in limited runs in 2011 and 2013. It’s described as having “aromas and flavours of herbal bitters, raisin, burnt toast, cola, bubble gum and licorice.”

Bog Water and The Bogfather are both available now at the Beau’s retail store and BYBO delivery service. LCBO distribution of Bog Water will follow in early January, while The Bogfather will remain exclusive to the brewery.
