Wasaga Beach Brewing Aiming for Summer Opening

WASAGA BEACH, ONThe Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin reports that a brewery start-up in Wasaga Beach, Ontario has been awarded a prime spot in a new tourist development, although not without some controversy at town council.

Wasaga Beach Brewing will be located in the Main Street Market at Wasaga’s Beach Area 1, with a new $30,000 anchor building being constructed to house the brewery and beachfront bar.

The vote at the town’s Committee of the Whole was split 4-3, with deputy mayor Nina Bifolchi and two councillors objecting to the payment terms of 8% of gross sales with a minimum of $10,000 annually, saying that a set rate rent would be more suitable.

Founded by partners David Cubitt and Peter Wilkins, Wasaga Beach Brewing has been in the works since 2014, and will be launching with a single brand – Beach One Cerveza, a light lager described as a “crisp and refreshing thirst-quencher” – with others planned to follow.

A contract-brewed version of the beer is expected to be available at select LCBO locations this spring, in advance of the brewery opening in the summer.
