BLYTH, ON – The village of Blyth in Ontario’s Huron County will be the home of a new brewery early next year, although its first brand will be available to beer drinkers in the province much sooner.

As reported by North Huron community paper The Citizen, Cowbell Brewing is being founded by Steven, David and Grant Sparling, members of a family with deep roots in the area.

The group will be breaking ground this spring at the corner of London Road and County Road 25, with plans to open a brewery, brewpub and events centre by the spring of 2017.

In the meantime, head brewer Stephen Rich – previously of Toronto’s Beer Academy – has developed the brewery’s first brand which will initially be brewed under contract. The Absent Landlord – named in honour of Henry D. Blyth who founded the village in the mid-1800s but never visited – is a Kölsch-style ale that is expected to be available at select LCBO locations this May.
