QUÉBEC, QC – Labatt Breweries of Canada – a division of multinational brewing company AB InBev – has purchased the brewing operations of Québec’s Microbrasserie Archibald.
Founded in 2005, Archibald is known for a number of brands that are available throughout Québec including La Chipie, La Joufflue, La Matante, La Brise du Lac, La Ciboire et La Valkyrie.
While financial terms of the deal weren’t released, it was noted that the transaction does not include the bar and restaurant division of Archibald. That side of the company will remain in the hands of co-founder François Nolin, who tells Le Journal de Québec that he intends to expand beyond the four restaurants currently open in Québec to become a nationwide chain.
Nolin will also stay on board to manage the brewery as an independent operation under Labatt’s craft beer division, which also includes Mill Street Brewery in Ontario and Stanley Park Brewing in British Columbia.
