OTTAWA, ONBig Rig Brewery has announced details of a new summer seasonal brand that pays tribute to the career of Chris Phillips, the brewery co-founder and veteran hockey player who announced his retirement from the NHL yesterday.

Salute 1179 – a names that refers to the total number  of regular season games Phillips played during his career with the Ottawa Senators – is a 4% abv and 20 IBU lager that Phillips had a hand in creating alongside Big Rig brewmaster Lon Ladell.

“My favourite beer is Lon’s pilsner,” said Phillips in a press release announcing the beer. “I knew I wanted to make a beer with him that was similar in style, but a little more sessionable. Something that anyone can enjoy anytime, anywhere.”

Salute 1179 is described as being “bright, full of flavour and incredibly refreshing,” and will be available in 473 ml cans at LCBO outlets throughout Ontario starting in mid-June.
