Dominion City & Clover Food and Drink Releasing Collaborative Beer for Capital Pride

OTTAWA, ONDominion City Brewing and Clover Food and Drink have announced details of a collaborative beer being released this week in conjunction with Ottawa’s Capital Pride festival.

1971: A Pride Collab is described as follows:

45 years ago, the simple act of boarding a bus destined for Parliament Hill to demand equal treatment under the law for Canada’s gay and lesbian citizens was a radical act of protest; one which required tremendous bravery. And yet, a small but dedicated group of demonstrators did just that at the We Demand protest in August 1971. Today many of the demands made by these trailbalzers are now the law of the land, despite the fact that in many ways true equality remains elusive. Dominion City Brewing Co. is proud to have teamed up with our friends from Clover Food and Drink to shine a light on this often overlooked but pivotal moment in Canadian history. 1971, our collab, all-Ontario sourced session pale ale honours 45 years of uneven and hard-fought progress for Canada’s LGBTQ+ citizens.

1971 will make it’s debut during a “Pride Cinq à Sept” event tomorrow (August 18th) from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Clover (155 Bank St., Ottawa). Proceeds from sales of the beer will go to support the Ten Oaks Project, a charitable program that connects and supports children and youth from LGBTQ+ families and communities.
