BLYTH, ONThe Clinton News Record reports that attendees at a recent event to kick-off a year of celebrations for the 140th anniversary of Blyth, Ontario were given the chance to try an upcoming brand from the village’s hometown brewery.

Cowbell Brewing was on hand to pour samples of Doc Perdue’s Bobcat, the second of five “Founder’s Series” beers that will form the core line-up for the brewery by the time its physical location opens next year.

Described as a West Coast Red Ale, the 5.5% abv and 30 IBU beer has the following back story and tasting notes:

Doc Perdue was Blyth’s veterinarian in the late 1880’s who had a penchant for collecting exotic animals and a love of drink. When once cut off for being over served at the local saloon, he marched home and returned with a bobcat on a leash, threatening to let it loose if he didn’t get another drink.

West Coast American Pale Ales and IPAs have inspired Doc Perdue’s Bobcat. Hops are loaded from top to bottom in this ruby red beer showing off aromatic pine, zest, fresh citrus and tropical fruit. The body is smooth and gently bitter, while the hop aromas are bright and vibrant.

Doc Perdue’s Bobcat will be officially rolled out in coming weeks, and will be available in cans at LCBO locations across the province starting in December, alongside the previously launched Absent Landlord Country Kolsch.
