Horton Ridge Malt & Grain Company Opening On-Site Brewery

HORTONVILLE, NS – A craft malt house that opened last spring in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley has announced plans to go “from grain to glass” with the addition of a small batch brewery.

As reported by Maritime Beer ReportHorton Ridge Malt & Grain Company is planning to install a 1-barrel brewing system in order to create limited edition beers using their malt that will be available exclusively on site.

“Most folks are not familiar with malt,” says owner Alan Stewart, “so a retail experience centred on malt alone will require a lot of explanation as to what malt is. Folks know beer, so a retail experience with beer is more interesting, and will make the malt explanation that much easier.”

Stewart also notes that the brewery will help the company “know how our malt behaves in the mash tun, to provide useful info to our brewery customers.”

Horton Ridge is hosting an information session this Saturday February 18th for those who are interested in investing in the project via the Horton Ridge Community Economic Development Investment Fund.

The Horton Ridge brewery is planned to be in operation by July 1st. For more details, see the full MBR article, and the Horton Ridge Facebook page.
