CALGARY, AB – A new brewery dedicated to “new exploration on old brewing traditions” is now open in northeast Calgary.
Caravel Brewery – named after a type of ship used by Portuguese and Spanish explorers in the 15th and 16th centuries – has been founded by Vlad Covali and Chris Travis, along with their respective wives, Victoria and Claire.
Vlad and Victoria moved to Calgary from Moldova several years ago, bringing with them a taste for traditional European beer styles; while Chris and Claire are native Calgarians who frequently travel, and add an experimental and modern touch to the brewery.
Caravel opened its taproom and retail store in early May, and is offering three flagship brands – Captain’s Lager, Dead Ahead Irish Red, and Hazy Horizon Hefeweizen – with rotating seasonals.
Caravel Brewery is located at 12-10221 15 St. NE in Calgary, and is open daily except for Mondays. See the Caravel website for business hours and more information, and for more background on the brewery, see the profile published last year at On Beer.
