Garrison Brewing Announces Winner of 2018 Brew-Off Challenge & Releases 2017 Winner

HALIFAX, NS – At an event held last Thursday March 29th at Garrison Brewery, the winner of 2018 edition of the annual Garrison Home Brew-Off Challenge was announced, and a commercially brewed edition of the 2017 winner was served for the first time.

The winning beer in this year’s competition, which challenged homebrewers to create a Kölsch, was brewed by the duo of Dave Martin and Kent Brooks. Runners-up included Jason McVicar (2nd place), Justin Clarke (3rd place), and Derek Ferguson (honourable mention).

As is the custom at this annual event, the evening also featured the release of a batch of last year’s winning beer brewed on Garrison’s system. 2017 winner Roger Ringuette worked with Garrison brewmaster Daniel Girard to scale up his recipe for Rowdy Roger Piper Scottish Wee Heavy (7.8% abv, 22 IBU), and it’s available now in 650 ml bottles at the Garrison retail store, and soon at private liquor stores & select NSLC locations in Nova Scotia.
