Union Electric Brewing Opening Next Year in Port Union, Newfoundland

PORT UNION, NLCBC News reports that a new brewery is currently in the works for Port Union, a historic community that forms part of the town of Trinity Bay North on the eastern coast of Newfoundland.

Union Electric Brewing is being founded by Nardia McGrath, an Australian expat who worked at several breweries in her home country, as well as Picaroons in New Brunswick and YellowBelly in St. John’s, before striking out on her own.

With assistance from Jane Tucker of nearby Port Rexton Brewing, McGrath is establishing the brewery in the former Union Electric building, which has stood in the town since the 1920s. While some improvements will be required to house brewing equipment, as much of the original building as possible will be retained.

No detailed timeline has been announced, but McGrath tells CBC News that she expects the brewery to be up and running by sometime in 2019. For more details, see the Union Electric Brewing Facebook page and Instagram feed.
