Nunavut Brewing Company Opening Today in Iqaluit

IQALUIT, NU – CBC News reports that Canada’s northernmost brewery, and the first in the territory of Nunavut, is opening today in Iqaluit.

Nunavut Brewing Company has been in the works for over three years, and has had to overcome several obstacles on its way to opening, including negotiating with the city to have extra water delivery so brewing could take place.

According to general manager Katie Barbour, the brewery will have four beers available at opening: The Flow Edge light lager, Frob Gold British golden ale, Aupaqtuq (“red” in Inuktitut) Irish red ale, and a Celebration Ale.

For now, beer will only be available by the glass at the brewery, but bottles and cans will be available later this year at local restaurants and Iqaluit’s beer and wine store. There are no plans to distribute outside of Nunavut.

Nunavut Brewing Company is located at 2025 Iqaluit Lane in Iqaluit. For more details, see the full CBC News article.
