MERIT Brewing Launching Chanan Singh Sandhu Memorial Scholarship

HAMILTON, ON – MERIT Brewing has announced the launch of a new scholarship program in honour of a major inspiration behind the brewery.

Chanan Singh Sandhu, the grandfather of MERIT co-founder Tej Sandhu, passed away last year but left a great and lasting legacy behind:

The impact Chanan had on the world is of incredible measure. He lived his life with love, selflessness, and generosity at the forefront of everything he did. He put everything into his business, Merit Furniture, knowing that it could be a conduit for helping over 1000 people from his village in India create a better life in Canada. Along with his wife, Charn, he housed, clothed, fed, and employed many of them, making sure that they got off to a good start once they arrived.

In memory of Chanan, MERIT has established the Chanan Singh Sandhu Scholarship which will be administered through Empowerment Squared, a Hamilton-based organization that supports newcomers to Canada.

100% of proceeds from draught sales of Chanan – a saison with orange zest and coriander that is one of MERIT’s flagship brands – in the month of May will provide initial funding for the scholarship.
