Alberta Government Loosens Liquor Rules for Parks and Festivals

EDMONTON, AB – Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and Environment & Parks Minister Jason Nixon have announced legislation changes that will loosen the rules around the consumption of beer and other alcoholic beverages in parks and at festivals in the province.

Effective immediately, a liquor ban that was applied in eight provincial parks – including Aspen Beach, Miquelon Lake, Garner Lake, Dillberry Lake, Pigeon Lake, Whitney Lakes, Jarvis Bay and Wabamun – every Victoria Day weekend has been lifted.

In addition, organizers of festivals and other outdoor events will now be able to serve drinks and have them consumed anywhere within the event grounds, rather than having a specific enclosed area. And relaxed rules will also go into effect for day use area picnic sites in select provincial parks later this summer.
