LANGFORD, BC – Just over four years since it opened in the city of Langford on Vancouver Island, Axe & Barrel Brewing will be closing its doors this week.
As reported by The Growler BC, the brewery has had a somewhat troubled history. Originally opened as a large brewpub with a Southern-style BBQ food menu, the format was shifted to a small tasting room when the business was sold and split in 2017, with the restaurant reverting to the Loghouse Pub name that it had before Axe & Barrel moved in.
Despite the shake-up, head brewer Andrew Tessier – who took over from founding brewer Dave Woodward in 2017 – had racked up several medals at the B.C. Beer Awards and Canadian Brewing Awards for his approachable ales and lagers.
