Nickel Brook Brewing Opening Second Facility in Etobicoke and Planning Move of Burlington Location

BURLINGTON, ON – Nickel Brook Brewing has confirmed that it is the purchaser of the Big Rock Brewery facility in Etobicoke in a deal that was reported earlier this week, and has also announced future plans for its current location in Burlington.

“Prior to COVID-19, we had an aggressive growth plan for 2020/2021,” says Nickel Brook co-founder Peter Romano in a statement. “Although COVID-19 set us back slightly, we haven’t taken our foot off the pedal, [and] we knew our Burlington facility couldn’t keep up.”

“In 2019 we received word that the property where our Burlington location resides was being redeveloped,” adds co-founder John Romano. “We took our time looking for a new home, looking from the Niagara Region to Toronto. We’ve always had a bit of a struggle with presence in Toronto, so we wanted to find a location closer to the city. The Etobicoke brewery has been on our radar for some time now and with a growing portfolio we knew now was the time.”

Located at 1589 The Queensway in Etobicoke, the brewery and taproom was launched by Big Rock in September 2016, and has been purchased by Nickel Brook in a $2.1 million deal that includes “all brewing and packaging equipment, excluding the bottling line which has been transferred for use at [Big Rock’s] Calgary facility,” as well as assumption of the building lease.

In addition to opening this second location, Nickel Brook is also making plans to move its Burlington brewery and taproom from its current location on Drury Lane to a new facility at 3426 Mainway Drive, with a target to open in summer 2022.

More details on both projects will be reported here on CBN as they become available.
