Oast House Brewers Releases Farmerettes Farmhouse Ale

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON – Oast House Brewers has announced the latest release in its Farmhouse Ale Collection, which also marks this year’s International Women’s Day.

Farmerettes Farmhouse Ale (6% abv) was inspired by the Farmerettes, young women from across Canada who went to the Niagara Region each summer during the First and Second World Wars to work the farms and canneries while the men were fighting overseas.

The beer is described as follows:

A Farmhouse Saison with a faint pink glow and topped with fluffy, dense foam. This beer gains much of its personality from a generous addition of several famous Niagara-grown fruits – but in traditional preserved or packaged formats such as canned, pureed, juice, pie filling, jams and jellies. The assemblage of local fruit includes peaches, pears, apples, cherries, strawberry, raspberry and concord grape. Due to this augmentation, a sweet fruit nose shines through upfront, but later fades to under layers of rustic complexity from the barrel aging and bottle conditioning. The overall process included a stainless steel ferment with added fruit, extensive barrel aging and then a secondary ferment in the bottle using an old canning syrup recipe mixed with our house farmhouse yeast as the dosage. The crisp green apple, pear finish is beautifully complimented by the intense, fine effervescence from this sparkling ale.

Farmerettes Farmhouse Ale is available now at the Oast House taproom, retail store, and online shop. A launch event including a presentation about the Farmerettes by the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum will take place at the brewery today (Wednesday March 8th) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
